He made a quick detour to see Imani and was on his way home when he passed the guys on the block.

“Yo, wassup, D.? You just going to brush us off like that, man?” one guy asked.

“Nah, man. I’m just trying to get home. I got a lot going on.”

“Like snitching to the cops?”

“What? No.”

“For real? So, that wasn’t you getting outta a cop car?”

“Well, they came for me, man. I am not went to them.”

“What you tell them?”

“Nothing.” Eight men got on him.

One guy shoved him to the ground and the rest joined in. Kicking him in the back, stomach, ribs and head, punching him in the face, one guy stomped on his knee and foot and another guy spit in his face. A car was coming so they stopped the assault and ran, leaving him broken and bloody on the pavement. The car stopped, a man got out and rushed to his side. “Please. Please help me.” he begged. The man opened the back door, carefully lifted him to feet and led him to the backseat. He got in and sped away to the nearest hospital.
